As a city dweller, I don’t have the luxury of staying inside during the winter more than usual. From the office to the grocery store, I walk everywhere just as often as I do during the summer. The only difference is I have to bundle up in hats and scarves and double up on moisturizer to protect my poor, wind-burned face.
But the best part of my day? When all my work and errands are complete, and it’s time to trade in my layers for comfy pajamas. A lighted candle completes the ritual, always in one of my favorite winter scents.
Winter certainly isn’t everyone’s favorite season, but it’s the perfect time for candles. Nothing’s cozier than lighting a candle inside my tiny apartment while the frigid weather blusters outside. A festive scent makes the moment even better.
Here are some of my favorite scents to make the most of the winter season.
|Yankee Candle Large 22-Ounce Jar Candle, Balsam & Cedar
From one of the candle world’s most recognizable brands comes this balsam, cedar wood, and juniper berry aroma. Jar Candles don’t just provide a classy and iconic display, but a full 110 to 150 hours of burn time! After that, I use the jars to store craft supplies.
|NEST Fragrances Birchwood Pine Scented Classic Candle
This candle makes me feel like the queen of the Majestic Winter Forest with its blend of white pine, fir balsam and Birchwood over a base of rich musk and amber. I want to reuse this votive vase for my own candle creations, though I doubt they’ll smell half as good.
|Thymes Frasier Fir Candle
Thymes has brought this candle back by popular demand. Filled with snow-white wax poured into a clear glass container embellished with delicate pine needles, it doubles as decor and smells like a Christmas tree! Burns approximately 50 hours.
|Woodwick Candle, Fireside Medium Jar
My apartment doesn’t have a fireplace, but who cares when I’ve got this candle? One of Woodwick’s signature scents, this fragrance balances the natural scents of amber, vetiver and musk to perfectly capture the essence of a cozy evening by a warm fire.
|Bath & Body Works Frosted Cranberry Scented Candle
This is my favorite of Bath & Body Works’ 2015 limited edition scents. It captures the year’s first frost in white cranberry, juicy peach & ripe red raspberries. I love the metallic snowflake design on the lid. I’ll eventually use this for storing wrapping paper ribbons.
|Aquiesse Pomegranate Sage Portfolio Tin Candle
Two of my favorite cooking ingredients in winter time, this candle blends the rich scent of pomegranate with the herbal scent of sage. Perfect from Thanksgiving until Christmas, and the soy wax should last just as long—nearly 100 hours.
| Red Currant No. 96 by Votivo
I love how Votivo described this candle: “a savory blend of tart red currants and golden fruit glaze ladled over coarsely ground vanilla bean ice cream served alongside of raspberry filled sugar cookies—the original Red Currant.” Yum! Burns 50 hours.
|Aspen Bay Reserve Fire 21.5 oz Jar Candle with Candle Snuffer
Made in Mississippi, this Aspen Bay candle brings an sleek look and a citrus scent to your holiday season. This 21.5 ounce jar comes with a stainless steel candle snuffer for increased elegance. A blend of tropical fruits and sugared citrus beats holiday fruitcake any day.
|LAFCO Tree Holiday Candle – Fresh Pine Forest
I can’t get enough Christmas tree candles! This is a preppier, more minimalistic look than the Thymes fir for a more modern style. The scents of pine needles, spruce, balsam fir, and incense create a modern Christmas tree fragrance.
|Paddywax Happy Holiday Collection Glass Candle with Inspirational Quote, Pumpkin Spice
Paddywax’s signature Soy Wax, paired with Pumpkin & Spice fragrance notes, hand-poured in a white glass vessel, and packaged in a festive box with an inspiring message. Talk about a holiday pick-me-up!
