Get to know a candle brand: Roxanna’s Candles
Candles with wooden wicks remind me of crackling lakeside fires. So when Roxanna’s Candles offered to send me a wooden wick candle for review, I knew exactly where I’d burn it.
For almost a decade, my friend group and I have been making two trips a year to a friend’s Lake Anna vacation home. In summer, we go boating and make s’mores by the fire pit. In winter, we go on walks in the woods and play board games until the wee hours of the night.
I brought my Frankincense and Myrrh candle to our latest lake house long weekend. I captured these photos just as the sun began to set over peaceful Lake Anna.
Roxanna’s Candles are 100% soy wooden wick candles, handcrafted to be free of added chemicals. They’re made in Nashville, Tennessee without any chemical binders. Go ahead and inhale right next to the candle—it’s just essential oil and a little phthalate-free fragrance.
I lit one while my friends and I launched into a board game. The subtle aroma of frankincense and myrrh essential oils filled the living room. But the wooden wick was markedly quiet—far less dramatic than the roar of a fireplace or a WoodWick brand candle would sound.
Unlike WoodWick or a fireplace though, Roxanna’s Candles are soot and chemical free. In exchange, the wooden wick is more subtle—one you can hear if you’re burning it next to you while you read a book, but not over the din of a lively board game with friends. When I was getting ready to go to bed, a friend asked, “Aren’t you going to put out the candle?” I’d forgotten about it!
Roxanna’s Candles make a great buy for people who are mindful of the chemicals in the average candle you’d find at the store. Frankincense and Myrrh is a delicate scent, so for something stronger I’d go with their bestsellers, Blue Spruce or Cinnamon Stick. 100% soy candles are hard to find (most are soy blends), and it’s even harder to find pure soy candles with chemical-free fragrances. Since this brand has both of these qualities, that makes it rather special.
